Got the call from soft spoken lady on Tuesday (1st Oct 2013) afternoon. She was so excited to found us (after searching around local jewellery retailer but non willing to accept this task) to custom made her 13th Anniversary rings which suppose to be deliver on Thursday (3rd Oct 2013) night. They have a morning flight to catch on the next day. Meaning to deliver a custom made rings in less then 2 days. To be more precise, the total time we have after minus out dairy routine like sleeping time (definitely steal the time from this part), meals time, cleaning time and not to mention we have another bulk project that suppose to be deliver on the 7th Oct 2013.

This suppose to be a surprise to her husband, but it ends up meeting this adorable couple (I seldom seldom use this description on people in 40s). They came to confirm order on Tuesday night. They want something very one-n-only with puzzle heart shape mixture of LOTR concept. The very unique font tells a secret love message. I joke a bit -  because of the rings they will have to learn a new language.  After everything is finalized, then Me started work from 11 pm to 3 am. After that my CNC machine continue working for another 9 hours until the 12 pm. At the same time, we worked very hard on the other also "very urgent" project.

But the good thing to share is this is our very primitive dream - to deliver a custom made jewellery like a vending machine. Just click and pop...waalaa you got your custom made rings wedding rings in just a few second. No more worries on last minutes gifts. To think positive, we have at least started a very first step of a long journey...

During the delivery night, the cutie couple just love their "babies" who were born in two days. We are truly glad we manage to contribute in perfecting their plan of 13th Anniversary.  The husband just making joke saying that he was expecting Me and Chin to have toothpick or salophen tape to support our eyelids.

4 weeks before, she was the victims of snatchers. Lost 2 (a triplet ring designs which comes in platinum, 18K rose and yellow gold) from 3 of her wedding rings. She valued the rings so much that had cried for the whole day (that was how she described (T,T)) just tried to accept the fact that those precious were gone.

The loving but not so romantic husband (still this is her description :)), came visit to make another pair of rings for her. Just to minimized her pain.

End of last year, I received a call from a lady (with sweet voice) asking for DIY custom made wedding ring workshop. A very young looking music teacher with a dream of making her very primitive wedding ring design to come true. 

The workshop was held on the 4th day of  Chinese New Year. The couple came with a patient helper: her sister cum photographer. The workshop was suppose to be complete in 3 hrs. but we chat a lot then found out that it was lunch time. When lunch time come back, we continue chatting (plus do work) until we realised that it was already evening time. Sometimes just can't help to share experience (or chatting plus do work) with such charming people.

Like an artist, she has the beautiful story behind the designs.

"Matte finishing represent him, and mirror finishing is her. 

For his ring: the splendid shine of mirror covering the matte surface means she is always the supporter to whatever his decision will be and both of them is bind together by a diamond represent everlasting.

For her ring: the rough macho kind of matte finishing covering the mirror means he will be the shelter to protect her from any life challenges and their love is tie up by the solid rock forever."

Meet this lovely couple early this year, presenting very unique ring design - engraved with feet print. I love the concept and suggested them to scan and put their own foot print on instead. They loved the idea. 

The scanning process was easy until the computer touching process. I struggled a lot on deciding the foot print shape. (Decision is always the tough part of design, Always Does!) The ring structure and the finishing type (we call this jewelry make-up) was also an uncertainty. 

Finally I did a few concept designs during the art work presentation i.e. round and flat ring structure, normal and blacken foot print, and finally with or without stones. 

At the end, she made the final decision of flat ring structure, blacken foot print and CZ stones setting. The end result was beyond her expectation. She loves it! Me too! 

Apparently, this is a cute and unique pieces of wedding band. Looking into depth, it means no matter What, When, Who, Where and How, they are committed to "walk together".

Our very 1st project that make our R&D project being commercialized.

I am definitely not an IT person. But I do enjoy the whole process of pretending to be a IT geek. So many parts need to be organized and put together. Fast decision making plays an important role. Something just have to let go and must make sure I will come back.  No matter who, where, how, when and which, the resistantly must be break to start a life time project.

Arabic Letter Engraved On Turquoise Palladium Silver Ring

Those words are engraved allover the walls of

They were the slogan of some Arab royal family 
who immigrated from Arabia to spain and built 
the Alhambra Palace there.

"Let me first write it in Latin letters: wa la ghaliba ella Allah. 

all the the words / letters are easy to pronounce except for (غالب  ghalib) , the first letter from the right in the  word written in Arabic letters (غالب) or first two letters in the word written in Latin letters (ghalib) should be  pronounced as a French (R). As i explained to you previously those words were the slogan used by an Arab royal family in Southern in the Spanish region of  Andalucia ( from Arabic Alandaluce.) this royal family wasn't the greatest Arab royal family in Spain and Portugal at all, in fact , they were so weak. their greatest achievement was building the famous Alhambara palace ( the original Arabic name is Alhamra so there is no B)  ولاغالب إلا الله.  could be translated to : No victor but God. God (no one else but God ) will always have the upper hand. 

Those words could be used to praise God or to ask Him for help since He is the one who has the upper hand but it could also be used for non religious purposes such as: to say to your self or to others (when wining or gaining something) that you should not be full of it be humble and remember that you won just because God allowed you to and He could make you lose next time. it could be also used to say to yourself or to others not to feel so sad and devastated when you lose something because what happened to was God's will and He will reward you later for accepting His will in war time it's used to say to the enemies: God ,who is the only real victor , is on our side (therefore you have no hope, you will lose not matter how powerful you are)

When the catholics took over Spain and Portugal they were heavily influenced by the Arab/ Muslim culture and one of the things they fell in love with was having Arabic slogans, poem and even verses from the Quran engraved on the walls of their palaces just like the Arabs did in Spain and Portugal.  ولاغالب إلا الله. was engraved or written on the walls of a few palaces that belonged to catholics in Spain because they thought that those words give power, wealth and luck. "

 They are sporty couple. The bride got tiny figure but like to challenge big "thing" - like mountain. The groom is tall but like to play with small "thing" such as soccer ball. 

The Edwardian font was chosen by him and she decides on this beautiful message. For his ring, it says: "Samana hrdaya nivah"  means - let our heart be inseparable. For her ring: " Samanama astu vomano", means - let our mind be one.

Inspired By Lord of The Ring?

Very sweet idea from the bride. She wanted his ring to be her name engrave on top and his name beneath. Her ring will be vice verse. I am quite happy with my Rolland this time, everything run smooth. The engrave pits was well behave and the casting part leave no headache. I post it on my FB and some feedback saying that they looks like rings from the movie "Lord of the Ring". I think it is because of the structure and the font look a bit similar. Anyway, it is my favorite movie and at least I got something related to it. :)
To make full use of the exiting mold, I have suggested a different material for them i.e. silver which cost extra RM 150 per pair. To serve happy customers is always a win, win and win situation.

Association Gift : Engraved Wood Medal

This task can never be done without my Roland MDX15.( My pity machine...) Nobody in KL willing to take up this job, cause too little quantity for a custom made product. They ordered about 1500 piece with about 12 design. We gone through a few factories that provide laser engrave and cnc engrave, they have quote at least RM5 per piece plus the outcome was not as good. Finally, my cnc machine have to work day and night to complete the 1500 pieces of wood engrave. After that, the wood sawing and finishing took place. This take us three weeks to finish.(On and off)

Bespoke Wedding Rings

I have always like to learn from every deal especially the communicating with client part, which lots of people see it as tedious. This nice couple came to me direct without shop around to comparing price. They have a picture with the ring design they love of. I have quoted them RM150 per ring for design, mold and workmanship fees. To be frank, I did under quote when compare to current Malaysia market just a ring with simple design will starts from RM300 onward.( Base on Little India Retails' price)

I planned to try outsource the rapid prototype production from a friend from China. She has offered us a great price for RP substrates. In Malaysia, the per gram price can easily go to RM 70. This means a normal ring will cost about RM 250 per piece just for the RP mold. If this business deal works, the only limitation of my jewelry design is my imagination. I truly truly hope this business with her does work. .....

Unfortunately, the ring broke (as well as my heart) into pieces during the delivery. When this outsource thing doesn't turn out right, then I have to make my MDX15 to do rest of the job. As such, the outcome of the physical ring will not be 100% similar to the artwork. I would say the similarity reach 80%.

Client finally agreed on RM300 per piece for the design mold and workmanship. Hopefully, the RP service center will succeed in Malaysia, then the dream of having custom made jewelry with fine finishing and reasonable price will come true.
